Hi y’all!
I’d like to introduce you all to the first edition of my newsletter, Celestial Dew, a newsletter all about my research into nocturnal astrology, elections, embodied magic, and the Moon.
Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work. As I unfurl the astrological projects I’ve been working on, this newsletter will be the first place you’ll hear about them!
Why dew?
I chose the name Celestial Dew as a translation of the Hebrew phrase טל השמים tal ha-shamayyim, perhaps more literally but less beautifully translated as “dew of the heavens.” Dew is an important symbol of regeneration and fecundity in Jewish culture. During the dry season in the coastal regions of the Levant, the morning dew is often the sole source of life-giving moisture for the plants and animals of that ecosystem. It’s almost as if the moonlight and starlight itself condenses on the surfaces of plants each night. Water is life in every ecosystem and dew represents the gift of life descending from the heavens. I chose to name this newsletter following an iconic line from our ancestor Yitzḥak’s blessing of his son Yehoshua‘ in Parashat Toldot, Bereshit 27:28:
וְיִֽתֶּן־לְךָ֙ הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים מִטַּל֙ הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם וּמִשְׁמַנֵּ֖י הָאָ֑רֶץ וְרֹ֥ב דָּגָ֖ן וְתִירֹֽשׁ׃
May the Divine give you [some] of the celestial dew and the terrestrial fat as well as plenty of grain and fresh wine.
Dew gathered from plants at dawn has often been afforded special occult qualities in many cultures the world over. In the western alchemical traditions, morning dew was used as an important ingredient in many alchemic recipes. Initiates would gather dew by spreading sheets of cloth out in fields overnight, wringing the dew out for their recipes, as is depicted in the illustration from the 17th century alchemical text Mutus Liber below.
Where I’ve been and where I’m headed
I initially launched my site in the spring 2022 with my article about haircuts and the Moon. As a follow up, I’ve been hard at work on my upcoming book, Electing to Care for the Body, which collects all of my tips and tricks for personal care elections. I really appreciate all the encouragement I’ve received towards my work on embodiment in elections! If everything continues to go according to plan, I’m aiming to release my book for purchase next spring.
I also spent the summer establishing the groundwork for my astrological consulting business, which I opened in August. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for all of the clients I’ve had the opportunity to work with this fall and excited to continue to grow my skills in the consultation room in the coming months.
Have you had a chance to check out my offerings? I’m booking natal readings for the month of November!
